UDUB Presents: The Brooklyn Open! FEAT. MAYA OSBORNE!

Brooklyn Open is monthly open mic series for teens at Brooklyn Public Library’s beautiful Dweck Center. Brooklyn Open is a safe space for poets, spoken word artists, emcees, scholars and activists to share their powerful and important voices. These events are run by youth for youth, with youth DJs, youth hosts and a monthly featured poet. As always, the Brooklyn Open is hosted by the Youth Board.
About Our Feature:
Maya Osborne is a 22 year old biracial Brooklynite who was raised in the Lower East Side. She started making and performing poems at 13. At 20, Maya completed her B.A. in the Written Arts and Africana Studies at Bard College. She competed in the 2013 Brave New Voices international youth slam as a member of the Urban Word NYC team and placed 3rd in the world. She has since performed her work at readings, conferences and festivals everywhere from the Nuyorican Poets Café to the United Nations. Last year, she wrote and performed her one-womyn play; FAT TALK at New York Live Arts Theater alongside 5 other moving works within the larger Urban Word NYC and HiArts production; FLAW(ED)LESS. Maya has since been an associate producer of the series and conversation about the hustle and love of the artist lifestyle; #LoveHustle. This past summer, she taught poetry at the Putney School Summer Program in Vermont. She is an advocate/artivist of body acceptance and is definitely the most excited when hearing bout how you gunna love yourself unapologetically today!
